Skater Dress

Let's do this!

Hey! It is almost 12am here and I am still awake. Let me finish this post and I'll get to bed soon enough. I wanted to upload two other projects which I had finished long long time ago. However, as usual I forgot to document them. Anyways, one of them I made using a pattern from a Japanese book and another was a pyjamas for my mom. I think I can skip on teaching you how to make them. LOL.
Today, I will be teaching you how to make your own skater dress. HEHE.

Materials:
Fabric (slightly stretchy) 1.5m-2m
Sewing machine
Lace
Thread

Skater skirt pattern:

When it comes to sewing a skirt, your waist measurement is the most important thing. Hence, always have your waist measurement recorded before starting on a skirt project! Afterwards, you can use this app/website to create your own pattern!

App/Website: http://byhandlondon.com/pages/circle-skirt-app

Since it is a circle skirt, you have to click on the FULL.
Let me show you an example:

Then it will show you have your skirt pattern should be like

Top pattern:

Take your favourite Dress or Top
Fold it into half.

Trace out the bodice. (I did not trace out the whole length of the top but only to wear I want the bodice to end)

I am very lazy to make a pattern for both the front and back bodice hence I decided to roughly draw a curve at the neck line to differentiate the front and back of the bodice. (The first curve is an alteration to the back bodice)

Then I snip off the first curve which will be my back bodice neckline.

In case you have no idea what I was talking about. I labelled for you! (For this piece, the neckline for the front isn't so low, the curve is much nearer to the back)
Draft out the sleeve (In this case, I want a short sleeve).

Cutting the fabric:
Front x 1
Back x 1
Sleeve x 2
Skirt x 1
Rectangle piece (20" by 4") x 2

Assembling the pieces:

1. Sew the shoulder area together.
2. Attach the sleeves to the armhole and sew.
3. Sew the opening ends to close the sleeve.
4. Sew down to the side seam line however leave about 2" open.
5. Sew the rectangle piece to make a tube (~20" by 2").
6. Overturn the tube with the right side facing you.
7. Attach each tube to the openings of the side seam and sew.
8. Sew the skirt to the top.
9. Hem the neckline and sleeve.
10. Pin the lace to the hem of the skirt and sew it as a decoration.

So how did my dress went?

There wasn't enough lace for the hem. So I went online to order some and of course, I won't be using the same lace shown on the picture since I managed to find even prettier lace. HAHA. I will show the new result of the dress with the new lace I bought on my next post (hopefully)!!! I guess the lace above can be used for another project! YAY!

Lots and lots of love from me~~~~

It's MARCH!!!

Hi!
TOTORO~ SO CUTE!!!

I can't believe it's already the third of the month!!! Time flies so quickly that it makes me wonder whether I've been spending my time purposefully or not. Well, looking back at how I've been spending my weekends, I can say that I did not waste my time on unnecessary things. AND that's good news! YAY! Now, let's move on to sewing!

Since it's been awhile since I last updated my post, I will be sharing two of my DIYs with you! First up will be the boxy pleated skirt!

I followed my favourite youtuber on how to make the skirt! All you had to do is have your measurements ready!

Click on the link and follow her steps! You won't go wrong! HEHE.

Let's get started!

Materials: Zip, ~2m of fabric, thread and sewing machine

Following Aya's tutorial, I came out with my own pattern!

Time to cut the fabric! Don't forget to fold the fabric into half! You should have two pieces!

I used carbon paper to mark out the different points!

From then, I pin the various points to make it boxy!
Sew across the pins!
Pins both pieces of fabric and sew one side seamline.

 Cut out the waistband.

Attach the waistband and zipper.

Lastly hem the ends!

You are done!!! YAY!

The reason why it looked so crumpled was I just wore this skirt recently and dump it inside my closet. Only realizing that I haven't took a final photo of the skirt! HAHA!!!

Trust me that the skirt looks so much nicer when it's ironed! HAHAHA!

-END-

Now we will move on to doing DIY using online pattern!
My best friend birthday was yesterday and I made her a top last weekend. HAHA! It only took me less than half of a weekend to finish a top! Since her and me do not have the same body size, I had to find a pattern with her size. So i used the friendly google and found the right pattern for her!

The pattern which I used is currently free! It's from Deer and Doe.
I find her sewing patterns to be really pretty but kinda pricey for me. If you don't mind spending some cash on patterns, you may want to purchase them! HEHE.

The pattern's name is Plantain T-shirt!

Materials: Printer, A4 papers, ~1.5m of fabric, thread and sewing machine

I did not take photos while doing this because I was so focused on making sure I did not screw up afterall it's a birthday present! HAHA. You don't have to worry since the instructions given were clear, you will be able to make it!

Do not resize ot rescale when printing since it could affect the size pattern!

After printing, put the papers to it's respective positions! Once you're done, use tape to secure them!

Cut out the respective patterns.

Pin the patterns on the fabric and cut them.

When it comes to make any top/ dress, it's always the shoulder where you begin sewing!

Now all you have to do is follow the instructions given and you will get yourself a nice T-shirt.

The end product is really pretty so I hope that you will also download the pattern and make it your own! Wishing you all the best! Also thank you so much Deer and Doe for the free pattern! Oh, my friend likes the present! HEHE.

That's all my fellow readers! Till then~

DIY-01

Hello!

It's finally my first post for the year, Hip hip Hooray!

I just finished my first DIY for the year.
I made very own sweater! HEHE.

Materials:
 2m fabric

Thread

 Sewing machine

I find sewing really simple and easy to do when you know how to create your own pattern. For myself, I use a similar clothing to trace out the pattern. In this DIY, I am using an oversized crop top which I am very much in love with. :)

With a sample clothing as a guideline for pattern-making, you can easily alter the length and width of the clothing you are making. Since I am using a crop top to make a sweater, I ensure that the pattern I trace out is longer than the sample clothing.

First and foremost, to trace out pattern you need to fold the clothes into half.

A simple sweater requires three important parts- FRONT, BACK & SLEEVE

FRONT

 BACK

SLEEVE
Do not forget to add in the fold direction. This is absolutely important or else you might forget to fold your fabric before cutting them!

 FRONT

BACK

SLEEVE

Yay! So we are done cutting the fabric. Now it's time to assemble these three together and you'll get yourself a sweater.

When ever it comes to sewing a top, the shoulder will be the first to sew.

right-right side which means the wrong side of the fabric will be on the outside.
pin the FRONT and BACK together

You can start sewing the shoulder.

Next, pin the sleeve to the armhole.
Always remember to pin your fabric together this is to keep them on the right track when you sew them.

Once the sleeve is sewn on, pin the sides of the bodice and bottom of the sleeve.

Then head to the sewing machine and press the foot pedal!

After assembling the three parts together, I decided to add bias tape to the neckline and cuff on the wrist area.

Oops, I forgot to take pictures of the bias tape! What I did to make the bias tape was I measured the neckline of the sweater.
My measurement for the bias tape was 23" by 1.5"
I cut out the fabric with an additional 0.5".
Pin the right-right side together and sew them. Afterwards, fold the ends of the bias tape and sew.

Next, I did the cuff.
The measurement was 10" by 3".
After cutting the fabric, fold the fabric into half (right-right side) and sew the ends.
Before attaching the cuff to the wrist area, turn the cuff inside-out.
Once the right side is out, pin the cuff to the wrist area and sew.

Lastly, I did a rolled hem at the bottom for a clean finish!

So how did my sweater look?

 Rolled hem~

 Bias tape~

 Cuff~

Sweater~

WEE~ Isn't it easy? HEHE! So how much fabric did I use? I only used about 1m out of the 2m ( I am a petite size lady. HAHAHA! )

I still have plenty of fabric left, A-line skirt will be the next DIY of 2016!

That's all for this post. I hope you enjoyed reading my blog. Also, I created a youtube account with my dearest friend. We called ourselves, 2misfitchers. Please check out our channel~
