After so long... TOTE BAG~~~~~~

Hello~
I know I haven't been updating.
This time, it wasn't my laziness that was stopping me. Fasting month has ended and Hari Raya is ending soon so I am going to be super free during the weekend to sew new things. I can't wait!!!
This means my blog will not be so dead anymore. HAHA.
Also, isn't Totoro cute? I got it for my 23rd Birthday recently! HEHE.

Today, I will be teaching you how to make your very own TOTE bag!
I really really love Tote bag because I could easily use it to get to work, market or nearby shopping mall.
I know some of you might not like the idea of TOTE bag because it is wayyyyy tooo overrateddddd or you might be using the exact same bag with a stranger you passed by or it is just too unorganized. However, maybe after making your very own Tote bag, you might come to like it.

Let's get started~

 Materials:
  • 1.5m to 2m of fabric
  • Thread
  • A pair of scissors/ Rotary Cutter
  • Ruler
  • Sewing machine
  • Zipper (Optional)

Cutting the fabric:

Since my fabric has prints, I have to cut out 2 sets of 17" by 13" and 2 sets of 20" by 4". Add 1" to each of the dimensions for seam allowances.

Sewing the pieces:

1. Using the 17" by 13"pieces, sew the bottom of the fabric with right sides facing each other.

2. Sew both sides of the pieces.

3.  Fold a triangle at the bottom left of the fabric (the measurement for the side of the triangle will be 1"). Repeat this step for the bottom right of the fabric. Now this piece will be known as a rectangular piece.

4. Using the 20" by 4" piece, fold the piece into half and sew the side. Repeat this step for the second piece.

Assembling the pieces:

1. Turn both the 20" by 4" pieces inside out with the right side facing you. This piece will be known as the long tube.

2. Turn the rectangular piece inside out with the right side facing you.

If you are using a zipper for the tote bag, refer to point 3. If you're not, refer to point 4.

3. Sew the zipper to the top of the rectangular piece. Then place one ends of the tube 4" away from the right side seam and 0.5" away from the zipper. Another end of the tube will be placed 4" away from the left side seam as well as 0.5" away from the zipper. Repeat the step for the second tube. Pin the tubes in position and sew it down.

End product:

4. Fold doubled of 1" down at the top of the rectangular piece. Then place one end of long tube 4" away from the right side seam with the other end of the tube 4" away from the left side seam. Pin and sew the pieces. Repeat this step for the other side of the rectangular piece.

End product:

TOTE BAGS!!!

* Serger/ Overlock will be great when it comes to sewing the bottom and side seams. If you do not own any serger/ overlock machine, you can use zigzag stitch and then a straight stitch to secure the stitches.

So why not make your very tote bag right now using a print which you love. It is also a great idea for a gift. I mean everyone and anyone can use a TOTE bag. HAHA.

Recommended Manga: Koe No Katachi (A silent voice)

This manga is very touching, sweet and simple.
I like the fact that this manga touches lightly on the topic of bully- The bully and the bullied.
The romance part is subtle which I enjoy when it comes to main characters being teenagers.
I cried, laughed and reflected while reading the manga.
I wasn't disappointed with the ending, it was beautifully written from the start to the end.
Thank you Yoshitoki Ōima for the brilliant piece.
It has now become one of my most favourite mangas.

The film will be released soon and I hope that it will be released in my country.
I want to watch the film since the manga is a masterpiece.

Lots of love,
